Dendrophilia is an ongoing exploration into the astounding diversity and profound influence of urban forests and individual heritage trees within our city and region.
With proximity to the 200-year-old Overton Oak, Portland’s 5,300-acre Forest Park, and the Hoyt Arboretum, a 20-year residency has led to diverse and daily encounters with the living beings and communities with which we coexist, and on whom so much depends.

While works of an abstract or compositional nature are equally compelling, the focus of this series is to create drawings that serve as annotations and compressions of time, physical space, relationships, and sensation.

This project is rooted in a fascination with how things begin, and how the interpretation of origin stories and themes over time can yield profound insight into evolving ways of thinking and seeing.
The Annunciation is a recurring theme in early Christian and European art, marking the beginning of the narrative cycle that has been the subject of significant works by painters over the centuries.
Study of these works first-hand, and often in the original setting of the painting, led to a parallel effort to analyze their spatial structure and propose new built interventions within the urban fabric.

2014–2025
For twelve consecutive years, a team of 12 runners, led by Keith Alnwick, has competed in a 199-mile, round-the-clock relay from Mt. Hood to the Oregon Coast.
Taking the name of the prehistoric mammal that migrated from Central America to the Pacific Northwest, the team has faced challenging conditions each year and consistently finished in the top 10% in the Open category.

There has always been a deep interest in the interface between information and physical space: maps, hand-drawn and photo-collaged posters and flyers, building signage and wayfinding, information cards for exhibits, and ephemeral installations.
Most of this work has been for partner firms and non-profits, and one goal for ALIS is to find new avenues and applications for this creative practice.

After a decisive MLS Cup victory in 2015, the ownership of the Portland Thorns and Timbers FC sought to expand and revitalize their historic stadium, today known as Providence Park.
As a key member of Allied Works’ research, development, and design teams, Keith Alnwick established the groundwork for an intensive feasibility study and synthesized concepts into a compelling vision and implementation plan.

The Still is one of the foremost single-artist institutions in the world. The building is a collection of galleries, conservation spaces and archives, with a focus on education and experiential connection to the work.
Developing the design concept required extensive research into the life of the artist, the cities and landscapes in which he lived, and their influence on his evolving body of work.
These insights were enfolded into the design process, and shared with the clients through presentation books, concept models, and other visualization methods.

“NWR” was an integrated design and development proposal for a former industrial site in the heart of McMinnville, OR, which is a hub for the region’s wine industry. The vision for the redevelopment includes diverse housing options, amenities, and a marketplace built around a new public square, creating an inviting and accessible community for all ages and income levels.

The Corvallis Museum was the result of a 9-year effort to create a home for an expanding collection of artifacts, including the archives of Oregon State University. We assisted with initial programming, collections and site analysis, and supported the institution through a multi-year fundraising campaign..
